Military Spouse Leverages Hiring Our Heroes Resources to Land Dream Job
Air Force spouse Heather Campbell found herself reluctantly reducing her professional work to part-time during her family’s first deployment.
As the years passed and her family grew, finding suitable employment became increasingly challenging due to remote locations, childcare limitations, and limited job opportunities.
Campbell’s professional journey took a positive turn when she joined the Alaska chapter of the Hiring Our Heroes Military Spouse Professional Network (MSPN). “I learned more about LinkedIn, strategic volunteering, [and] leveraging my experience,” Campbell said. Her professional network grew through her MSPN involvement and advocacy efforts. She also worked hard to become a nationally recognized subject matter expert in her field.
When she moved back to the States, Campbell attended the Hiring Our Heroes Amplify workshop where she learned to utilize her expertise, volunteer experience, and network to find fulfilling employment. Her efforts paid off when she landed a dream job offer from an organization that had no open positions listed. “By leaning into my professional skills, I was able to present myself as the expert they needed on their team and was offered a position on the spot,” Campbell said.
Campbell attributed her success to the support and guidance she received from Hiring Our Heroes, her local MSPN, and her network of military spouses.

“Without the encouragement and mentorship from HOH’s MSPN and Amplify programming, I would not have been able to find my dream job. I’m thankful for the kind and steadfast support from HOH’s team members who saw the value I brought to the table long before I ever did and encouraged me not to settle for less than my ideal opportunity!” – Heather Campbell
