Virtual Hiring Fair Connects Air Force Veteran to New Career
Transitioning from military service to civilian life can feel overwhelming. For Air Force veteran Richard Etheredge, the journey began with uncertainty as he prepared to leave active duty. But after attending a Hiring Our Heroes hiring fair, he connected with a SkillBridge opportunity that ultimately led to a full-time role.
Virtual Hiring Fair Opened New Career Doors
Richard first attended an in-person Hiring Our Heroes event and signed up to receive information about resources for job seekers and upcoming events. Signing up for HOH emails paid off when, a few weeks later, he received an invitation to a virtual hiring fair.
While reviewing the list of participating companies for the event, Encore caught Richard’s attention, so he scheduled a one-on-one conversation with an Encore recruiter during the hiring fair. That conversation became a turning point for his transition, as Richard realized Encore could offer the career path he was seeking.
Support Made the Difference
Encore went above and beyond to support Richard, connecting him with veterans who had completed SkillBridge fellowships at the company as part of their own transitions and giving him valuable insight into the experience. Encore even arranged for him to attend an event at one of their venues in Germany. This hands-on exposure helped Richard confirm his decision to include SkillBridge as part of his transition plan.
Richard completed his fellowship with Encore, and the experience was so positive that he accepted a full-time role as a project manager. “It was a journey that started with uncertainty, but thanks to the support and opportunities from Hiring Our Heroes and Encore, I found a path that felt right,” Richard shared.
