Hiring Our Heroes Career Community Keeps Military Job Seekers Moving Forward
Transition is always challenging, but for the approximately 100,000 service members projected to transition out of the military in the next six months, their transition may be particularly difficult.
With in-person events currently restricted nationwide, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes has been working diligently to bring world-class career curriculum to a virtual platform.
On March 30, Hiring Our Heroes launched Hiring Our Heroes Career Community, a virtual training and professional education center that will allow service members and military spouses to keep moving forward on their plans to transition out of the military. In collaboration with employers that share Hiring Our Heroes’ mission, the curriculum focuses on leadership coaching, civilian career preparation, industry knowledge, and overall wellbeing resources.
Each week kicks off with Motivation Mondays, powered by Toyota, featuring inspirational, powerful voices of leadership from the military community. The week’s programming continues with career training and education on Transition Tuesdays, which brings Hiring Our Heroes Career Summits to transitioning service men and women and military spouses at military bases around the world.
On Wednesdays, the focus is on wellness. Hiring Our Heroes’ work-life BALANCE workshops, powered by Starbucks are conducted with virtual resources for military spouses, veterans, and active military members to develop personal action plans that keep them focused during job searches. Additional Wellness Wednesday programming includes contributions from Military OneSource and other health and wellness sessions for all military family members.
On Thursdays, experts from high-demand industries share their insights and connect with job seekers. The week rounds out with a special program on Feature Fridays.
Career Community offers free world-class career curriculum tailored to our nation’s military community and can be accessed virtually from anywhere in the world.
“Our virtual professional education center ensures transitioning service members and military spouses are getting the training and employer connections they need to jump into the labor market when we get past the coronavirus pandemic,” said Eric Eversole, president of Hiring Our Heroes. “They will continue to transition out, and we will continue to do everything we can to help them move into civilian careers.”
Career Community delivers relevant information and educational resources on a variety of topics related to professional development and transition. Participants can ask hiring experts questions, have their resumes reviewed, and receive advice on their LinkedIn profile, just as they would at one of our Career Summits, AMPLIFY military spouse career intensives, or hiring expos.
“Hiring Our Heroes Career Community is the future of military workforce planning. We will continue to enhance and adjust our programming to meet the needs of hundreds of thousands of service members, veterans, and military spouses seeking professional development and employment opportunities, and to connect employers with top military talent as industry needs are shifting.” concluded Eversole.
