You would think that most companies must be chomping at the bit to hire a veteran. They are hardworking, disciplined, and have that certain military precision in everything they do. But when you are a veteran, getting a job after active service can prove harder than expected. According to government data, an estimated 200,000 veterans remain unemployed and another 1.5 million vets are expected to return home in the next four to five years to join the workforce.

Because of the growing need to find meaningful employment for our country’s service members and their spouses, Hiring Our Heroes partnered with the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation to launch Virtual Jobs Scout, a fresh and free take on the virtual career fair. Virtual Job Scout allows veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses to connect with recruiters from Fortune 500 companies and small- and medium sized businesses like never before. Whether you are a military caregiver with a hectic schedule or a newly separated veteran living in a rural area—no matter where you are in the world—Virtual Job Scout places job opportunities at your fingertips.

In conjunction with the 2014 Fort Bragg Veterans Jobs Summit, the first Virtual Job Scout fair will take place from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. EDT on August 12th and 13th, 2014. More than 1,200 soldiers will attend a Hiring Our Heroes job fair during the summit, but for the first time, hundreds who are unable to attend this major hiring event will be able to take part online. Because Virtual Job Scout is available 24/7, recruiters can also connect with candidates around the clock. There is no limit to the number of jobs a verified recruiter can post, the number of times a user can participate in a fair, or the number of connections that can be made. Join the 24,000 men and women who have successfully secured employment through our job fairs by registering for Virtual Job Scout.

Already, more than 250 employers and 1,500 veterans and military spouses have signed up. Simply create a profile to register and begin browsing hundreds of job postings.
