The U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Hiring Our Heroes Hiring Fair, scheduled for August 6th, 2013, at the American Legion Tidewater Post #327 is committed to making this one-of–a-kind FREE hiring fair a win-win for employers and veteran/military spouse job seekers.

This event is sponsored by University of Phoenix and co-sponsored locally by the Virginia committee of the Employer Support of the Guard & Reserve (ESGR), the U. S. Department of Labor Veterans Employment and Training Service (DOL VETS), U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and The American Legion.

We will also be holding resume building and mock interview sessions throughout the day for job seekers. No pre-registration is required for this.

University of Phoenix Employment Workshop

The University of Phoenix employment workshop consists of a classroom session beginning one hour prior to the hiring fair. This will be followed one-on-one mentoring sessions with all pre-registered and walk-in participants to be conducted throughout the day.  Mentoring sessions focus on resume building, resume writing, and interviewing techniques for all job-seeking veterans and service member participants.

Interested candidates must complete the FREE electronic pre-registration in order to participate.  A maximum of 50 participants will be accepted for the full workshop.  Once the pre-registered candidates have their coaching sessions, the opportunity may be available for “walk ins” to have a coaching session through the end of the Fair (depending on availability).

Online Tools for Veterans and Spouses

Hiring Our Heroes has launched an online partnership with to complement our face to face hiring fair efforts across the country.  Veterans can get help writing resumes and interview tips; translating military skills, experience, and training into related civilian careers; and finding current lists of employment opportunities with military-friendly employers.
