Thank you for joining us Tuesday, March 5, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., for a job fair for veteran job seekers, active duty military members, guard and reserve members, and military and veteran spouses, at the Solomon Center, 6510 Strom Thurmond Blvd., Fort Jackson, SC 29207. This event was a one-of-a-kind FREE hiring fair for both employers and job seekers.

Conducted in partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Hiring Our Heroes Employment Initiative, GE is provided a Veterans Network Transition Assistance Program workshop from 9:00am until 10:00am. Afterwards, mentoring sessions, which focused on resume building, resume writing, networking, and interviewing techniques for all job-seeking veteran and service member participants will be available for the rest of the fair with GE veteran employees.

This hiring event was conducted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, Office of the Mayor, Columbia, the Department of Labor's Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (DOL VETS), the South Carolina Committee of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), The American Legion, WorkSource South Carolina, SC DEW, NBC News, and other local.

Columbia GE Veterans Network Transition Assistance Program

The employment workshop consisted of a classroom session beginning at 8:00 AM followed by GE's own veteran employees conducting one-on-one mentoring sessions with all pre-registered participants.  Mentoring sessions focused on resume building, resume writing, and interviewing techniques for all job-seeking veteran and service member participants.

Interested candidates must have completed the FREE electronic pre-registration in order to participate.  A maximum of 50 participants were accepted for the full workshop.  Once the pre-registered candidates had their coaching sessions, the opportunity may be available for “walk ins” to have a coaching session through the end of the Fair (depending on availability).

Hiring Our Heroes has launched an online partnership with Military.com to complement our face to face hiring fair efforts across the country.  Veterans can get help writing resumes and interview tips; translating military skills, experience, and training into related civilian careers; and finding current lists of employment opportunities with military-friendly employers.
