What is the weekly schedule and time commitment?
The 12-week program is held Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fellows attend an initial week of corporate training followed by 11 weeks of on-the-job training with their selected organization. Corporate training takes place Monday through Thursday with a day of mandatory classroom instruction every Friday.
What happens after I apply?
Once your application is received, a corporate fellowship program manager will contact you at the email address you provided. The program manager will offer further details about the program, including additional application requirements, timelines, and the necessary paperwork to obtain approval from your command. If you are not contacted within three business days of your application submission, please contact the program manager in your area to confirm receipt of your application. What material is covered in the educational component?
The education component of the program trains fellows in various skillsets desired by employers such as project management, influencing without authority, and strategic communications. This specific coursework strengthens their professional knowledge, giving fellows an edge in the civilian job market. At the conclusion of each week, the Corporate Fellowship Program hosts a “Fellowship Huddle” featuring senior-level guest speakers. This engagement allows fellows the opportunity to make meaningful connections with leaders in the private sector, while also learning from corporate experts in key positions.

How do fellows obtain approval from their military command to participate in the program?
The Corporate Fellowship Program is an approved Army Career Skills Program, which falls under the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program. Transitioning service members from any branch of service may apply if they meet the eligibility requirements. DoD Instruction 1322.29 allows service members to participate in the program with command approval. Program managers will provide candidates with the necessary documentation to obtain approval. Is there a cost to participate in the program?
No, there is no cost associated with program participation. The certification training courses offered to fellows are provided by our partner, Simplilearn, at no cost to the service member. Certification exams are not included in the program.
What are some of the participating companies?
The Corporate Fellowship Program has more than 150 participating companies including Amazon, Compass Group, Dell, Hangar, Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), La Quinta Inns & Suites, Lockheed Martin, Maximus, Ryder, Starbucks, UPS, 7-Eleven Inc, and IBM. Each program region works with a variety of employers and companies vary depending on location. Program managers in each area can provide more information about the companies participating in that location.
Is every fellow offered a job at the end of the program?
A fellow who demonstrates progress and proves to be a good fit for their host company, will have the opportunity to interview for an open position. Fellows will also be able to network with other companies within the fellowship program and interviews may be offered, given the proven track record of a fellow’s success.
What is the role of the Fellowship Program Manager?
Hiring Our Heroes provides a program manager to monitor each fellow’s participation and progress. Program managers coordinate with the fellow’s military leadership and act as a liaison with the host companies. Program managers also monitor and ensure the program’s effectiveness, handle inquiries from each fellow’s military leadership, and capture success and satisfaction rates from fellows and host companies.
